Up cycling too big jeans and Jayne Cobb hat

I guess I forgot about this for a while. Got busy with life of something. But I have had some extra time on my hands lately and while I have still been crafting, I have wanted to share a few things, so I figured now was a good of time as any.
First, these jeans. Too long, too big, and plain. I figured with fall upon us why not turn them into something a bit more festive. So I took my sewing machine to them, sewed them up into skinny's and because I am a short little person, I ended up taking off close to a foot off the length of these jeans so I was not walking on them and I could wear them with boots and not have them bunch up in my boot. I also washed them twice in bleach and then colored them with Rite dye tangerine and cocoa brown. =)

Before                                      After

The Jayne Cobb hat is for my Halloween costume. I'll post photos of this when its all done. I only have the shirt left. I crocheted this using this pattern. I pretty much followed Ravelry's 'Granny Smith' pattern. Here it is.

HAT:
Ch 4 on hook size 5 mm / H/8 with olive and form a ring with 1 sl st in 1st ch.
READ CROCHET INFO!
ROUND 1: Work 8 sc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2: Work 2 sc in every sc = 16 sc.
ROUND 3: * 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 24 sc.
ROUND 4: * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 32 sc.
ROUND 5: Work 1 sc in every sc = 32 sc.
ROUND 6: * 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 40 sc.
ROUND 7: * 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 48 sc.
ROUND 8: * 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 56 sc.
ROUND 9: * 1 sc in each of the next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 64 sc.
ROUND 10: * 1 sc in each of the next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 72 sc.
Finish inc in size S/M here, now continue to work sc in the round, work continuous rounds in a spiral without finishing each round with a sl st in 1st st.

ROUND 11: Only applies to Size L/XL: * 1 sc in each of the next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 80 sc.
Finish inc in size L/XL here, now continue to work sc in the round, work continuous rounds in a spiral without finishing each round with a sl st in 1st st.

Work until hat measures approx. 18-20 cm / 7”-8” from the top.
Work next round as follows: ch 3, 1 dc in next sc, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round, finish with ch 1, skip 1 sc and work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round.
Work next round as follows: Work 1 sc in every dc and ch from previous round.
Fasten off.

EAR FLAPS:
Beg working approx. 5 cm / 2’’ from mid back. Work 16 sc along the edge of hat, turn. Work sc back and forth while at the same time dec 1 sc at beg and end of every row – READ DECREASE TIP! Continue with dec until 2 sc remain. 8 rows in total have now been worked. Repeat on the other side of hat.
